This Sunday, December 28- EVOLUTIONARY SPIRITUALITY- PART TWO: ANDREW COHEN - Spiritual teacher and cultural visionary Andrew Cohen (1955-       ) published his seventh book, Evolutionary Enlightenment in 2011.  He redefines spiritual awakening as understood in past centuries to now include a significant and substantial addition in the newly developing evolutionary understandings that now inform our science, philosophy and spiritual development. 

Ken Wilbur describes Cohen's book as "Truly one of the most significant books on spirituality written in the postmodern world."  Michael Dowd speaks of Cohen as "a truly remarkable teacher on the cutting edge of evolutionary thinking and action…  Andrew's writing and teachings are destined to make a real difference in the world."

 Our presenter, Ed O'Keefe, a long-time student of evolutionary spirituality, will outline the major ideas of Andrew Cohen, and tie Cohen's work to that of Teilhard de Chardin and Thomas Berry.

This Sunday, December 21- EVOLUTIONARY SPIRITUALITY- PART ONE: TEILHARD de CHARDIN-Geologist and French Jesuit priest, Pere Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955)  had a profound influence on all modern "evolutionaries".  His prophetic voice, especially in The Phenomenon of Man, helped form the basis of what we now call evolutionary spirituality.  Part one of this two-part presentation will highlight some of the seed thoughts of this extraordinary thinker, scientist and mystic. 

Presenter: Ed O'Keefe.  One of Dr. O'Keefe's college professors was Thomas Berry, a cultural and religious historian who continued Teilhard's work among the religious/scientific community.  Father Thomas Berry wrote The Great Work, devoted to the study and furthering of evolutionary spirituality. … Ed and his wife, Romella, coordinate these Forum presentations.

FCC Forum Reminder & Cookie/Book Sale Poster

  This Sunday, Dec, 7 at 9:15, the topic will be An Introduction to the Emotion Code.  The Emotion Code has been called the simplest, most direct and most effective healing method in Energy Psychology today. Presenter Richard Cram will show a DVD introducing this amazing gift and its main spokesperson, Dr. Bradley Nelson, and lead a discussion on the topic.There will be another session in January on specific applications of the same topic.

             Richard Cram, an Energy Dowsing–Geobiologist, is the current President of the  Appalachian Chapter of the American Society of Dowsers.

I've also attached a poster for the Dec. 13 Holiday Cookie & Book Sale, which I hope you'll all support. If you're inclined to print and post it, that would also be much-appreciated. Please pass the word. Thanks. 

 

FCC Forum Reminder

This Sunday, November 30 at 9:15 our annual thanksgiving forum topic is POETRY OF GRATITUDE.  Hilliard Staton and Roger Smith will jointly lead the program, which will feature reading and discussing poetry, especially poetry about gratitude, about autumn and autumn-into-winter.

While attendees are welcome to bring poems that they would like to share, Hilliard & Roger prefer that any such poems deal with those above-mentioned topics. We also ask that anyone bringing poems to read also bring about 25 copies to share with the audience, so that they can read along. 

I hope your Thanksgiving is peaceful and healthy.

 This Sunday November 23 at 9:15 the topic is PARADOX OF BEING GOD AND BEING A MERE MORTAL  

"I have followed a line of thinking in science that led to the curious idea that we are all Gods, or very much of God.  Another curious result of this thinking is that it isfeelings that are the medium of our power.  Neither of these ideas fit very well with current mainstream science or religion, but they resonate nicely with the mystic spiritual traditions and with much human experience. 

"Being connected to God in any way at all is quite a change from the way I was raised as a good, scientific materialist who was very much an isolated and entirely mortal being.  I am still very much the material being, but knowing how the world really works presents me with many new opportunities and responsibilities.

 "In this talk, I will look briefly at why I think we are all gods.  Then we will consider the contrasts and paradoxes that come up when we try to reconcile our obvious state as mortal material bodies and, on the other hand, the not so obvious state of being connected to the God of all that is." – Doug Bennett 

Author/scientist/lecturer Doug Bennett's latest book is titled From Material Being to the Ground of All Being.  He speaks lovingly of his recent Big Epiphany which has to do with the pivotal role of feelings in our lives.  Doug lives in Brevard, NC, and gives many talks and workshops in our area.

This year, we are planning to have a community Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner with turkey and all the trimmings at the church for whoever would like to come.  Dinner will be at 2:00.  We will need turkey providers and cookers as well as all the other dishes for a feast!  Everyone is welcome and  invited to bring family and guests.

 There will be two sign-up sheets circulated each Sunday after church. See Ed and Romella O'Keefe if you have any questions.
